内容简介
本书是基于“亚洲社会运动研究项目”（Asian Social Movement Research）在中国的研究成果而写成的。该研究的目的是促进打工者的公平生存权和工作权，记录打工者自身、为打工者服务的非政府组织在争取打工者权益中的社会动态过程，增强为打工者服务的非政府组织的行动研究能力，并直接支持他们进行行动研究。本研究采用参与式的研究方法，对处于变革期的国家与社会之间的关系进行了考察，并对发生着深刻的变化社会运动进行了真实记录。
中国的城市发展不能抹煞农村打工者做出的贡献。但城市的迅猛发展很大程度上是建立在剥夺农村打工者权益基础之上的。 从打工者存在的那天起，为打工者讨公道的运动一直不断。运动的组织和形式在近几年也有了很大发展。在80年代早期，打工者的运动没有得到城市社会和其他部门的支持，包括媒体和学者。他们争取权益的运动是孤立无援的。社会上把打工者当作社会问题来处理。90年代开始，打工者维权问题得到广泛的关注，很多媒体、学者和律师们积极地投身到维护打工者权益的运动中来。
本书对维护打工者权益的组织、媒体及打工者进行调查研究，实证性强，具有很大的政策参考价值与现实意义。
