黄平,社会学博士（1991,伦敦经济政治学院[LSE]），中国社会科学院研究员、中国社会科学院美国研究所所长。
兼任中华美国学会会长、中国社会科学院国际政治中心主任、中国社会科学院研究生院美国系主任（博士生导师）、《美国研究》主编、中国社科院高级职称评委、美国研究所学术委员会主任、中国经济社会理事会常务理事、中国国际关系学会副会长、国际社会学学会（IIS）副会长、国际跨文化研究所（International Institute of Trancultura）副所长、《The British Journal of Sociology》、《Current Sociology》、《Comparative Sociology》、《Global Social Policy》、《International Migration》等杂志担任国际编委。
曾任中国社会科学院社会学所副所长（1998-2003）、院国际合作局局长（2003-2006）、联合国教科文组织重大科学项目评审委员（2005-2007）、联合国教科文组织“社会转型管理”（MOST）政府间理事会副主席、国际社会科学理事会（ISSC）副理事长。
主持过国家社会科学基金课题、中国社会科学院重大课题以及联合国、欧盟、世界银行、亚洲开发银行等资助的研究课题和发展项目，并参与组织了2010年“中欧文化高峰论坛”等大型高层学术交流活动。
用汉、英在国内外发表过论文多篇，有的被翻译成了日、德、法、西、韩和泰文，主要著作包括《寻求生存》（合著，云南人民出版社，1997）、《未完成的叙说》（四川人民出版社，1997）、《西部经验》（社会科学文献出版社，2005）、《误导与发展》（中国人民大学出版社，2006）、和《我们的时代》（合著，中央编译出版社，2007）等，并主编有《与地球重新签约》（人民文学出版社，1998）、《CHINA REFLECTED》（ARENA PRESS，2003）、《迈向和谐》（天津科技出版社，2004）、《中国与全球化：华盛顿共识还是北京共识》（社会科学文献出版社，2005）、《中国模式与“北京共识”》（社会科学文献出版社，2006）、《农民工反贫困》（中英文，社会科学文献出版社，2007）、《乡土中国与文化自觉》（三联书店，2007）、《挑战博彩》（社会科学文献出版社，2008）、《美国研究所青年论文集（2009卷）》（主编），社会科学文献出版社（2009）等。翻译的著作包括《现代性的后果》（吉登斯著，合译，南京：译林出版社，2004）、《亚当斯密在北京》（阿里奇著，合译，北京：社会科学文献出版社，2009）、" 重建社区公共性——新农村社区建设的实践与思考",<中国经济>2010.3. 。近期关于中国对外政策的文章包括“中国在21世纪上半期的国际环境与战略选择”， 载《战略高度》，玛雅主编，三联书店，2008；“国家安全与对外关系：对60年的回顾与思考”，载《中国对外关系：回顾与思考（1949-2009）》，张蕴岭主编，社会科学文献出版社，2009；China-US Relations：towards Maturity，载The International Spectator, Volume 44, Issue 2, June 2009, pp.9-16(合著)。
Huang Ping, Ph.D. in Sociology(LSE, London, 1991), Senior Research Professor(1997-), and since 2006, the Director General, Institute of American Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences(CASS),and Director, Centre for World Politics, CASS.
Prof. Huang Ping holds a number of positions in academic associations or organizations, such as President, China National Association of American Studies, Vice President, China National Association of International Relations, Vice President, International Institute of Sociology(IIS), Vice President, International Institute of Transcultura, and Standing Committee Member, China Economic and Social Council.
Prof. Huang Ping has been conducting or chairing research programs sponsored by EU, UNESCO, China Social Sciences Foundation, and CASS, he has also been adviser or consultant for UN, Social Sciences Research Council (SSRC), International Organization of Migration (IOM) World Bank, Asian Development Bank. He has been involved in organizing high level International exchange activities such as the most recent “China –EU Cultural Summit 2010’ in Brussels.
Prof. Huang is the Editor General, Journal of American Studies(Chinese), Deputy Editor General, China & World Economy(English),both published by CASS. He is also in a number of editorial boards for academic journals, including Global Social Policy, British Journal of Sociology, Current Sociology, Comparative Sociology, and International Migration.
Huang Ping has published papers in Chinese, English, and some have been translated into Japanese, German, French, Spanish, Korean, and Thai. His recent books include From Western China: Experiences and Observations (Social Science Documentation Press, 2005), Development: Understanding and Misunderstanding (People's University Press, 2006), Our Era (Coauthor, Central Translation Press, 2007)， and he edited Towards A Harmonious Society (Tianjin Science Press, 2004), China and Globalization (Social Science Documentation Press, 2005), Poverty Reduction among Migrants in China (Social Science Documentation Press, 2006), Rural China and Cultural Consciousness (SDX Co. Ltd, 2007), Casino in Maicao (Social Science Documentation Press, 2008), and most recently has a long interview on Some New Strategic Thinking on China's Global Challenges and Foreign Policies; and a paper “China-US Relations: towards Maturity” in The International Spectator, Volume 44, Issue 2, June 2009, pp.9-16.
