11)Virtual Community: Extend of Real Life

Abstract:

Virtual community is a special community form in the period of internet. Why did it come into being? What was its history, types and functions? After answering these questions, the author raised his idea that virtual community is the result that real life extends to internet; virtual community can compensate community life in the real world to some degree, but never replace it.
In order to prove virtual community is existed as a concept, the author compare it with real community in four key factors: exist space, interaction group, interaction mode and group self-identity. Then, the author proved virtual community is the result that real life extends to internet from two cases in which two persons were in different roles in virtual community: an aspiring participant and a governor.
