Introduction:
Chinese Sociological Association (CSA) is a national professional organization of sociology teachers, researchers and practitioners. It aims to implement the guideline of "Let one hundred flowers bloom, and one hundred schools of thought contend" under the CPC leadership and under the direction of Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought and Deng Xiaoping Theory; undertake sociological research in light of China's practices in a view to develop the academic cause of sociology and serve the socialism-building of a prosperous, democratic and modernized China. CSA organizes its members to undertake various kinds of scholarly activities, and promote and assist the social research of various regions or agencies. It disseminates sociological knowledge and makes efforts to raise the level of sociological teaching and research. It publishes books and journals of sociological nature, fosters academic exchanges, and promote training of sociologists. It organizes or attend domestic or international conferences and other forms of scholarly exchange.
CSA is housed in the Institute of Sociology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences which acts as its governing body, and the Secretariat as its standing executive body is also housed in the Institute.
CSA was founded in March 1979, with Prof. Fei Xiaotong as its 1st and 2nd president, Prof. Yuan Fang as its 3rd, and Prof. Lu Xueyi as its 4th, and Prof. Lu Xueyi and Prof. Zheng Hangsheng as its 5th.
The current president of CSA is Professor Zheng Hangsheng, and Professor Li Peilin as the Executive Vice President and legal person representative. Other vice presidents include: Deng Weizhi, Wang Sibin, Lu Hanlong, Liu Min, Li Qiang,Gu Yingchun£¬Song Linfei, Zhao Zixiang, Cai He and Pan Yunkang. Xie Shouguang is the Secretary-Generals, and Wang Xiaoxi, Liu Shiding, Shen Yuan, Hong Dayong, Wang Chunguang and Fan Guangwei as the Vice Secretaries. Professors Lei Jieqiong and Lu Xueyi are Honorary Presidents.
CSA admits team members from the provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government scientific research institutions and academic organizations related to sociology. For admission, written applications must be submitted to the Standing Council for examination and approval. CSA has 31 team members and about 1,000 individual members. There are eleven professional committees under CSA.
Ever since its founding, CSA has played a significant part in uniting its members, training talents, popularizing sociological knowledge, promoting the institutionalization of sociology, and launching national and international academic exchanges, hereby making remarkable contributions to China's reform and social development.
CSA is committed to:
1. Organizing and regulating the labor division and cooperation between its members, and launching various types of academic activities;
2. Promoting and assisting different regions and sectors in their social surveys and research, and expediting the development of the sociological cause;
3. Publicizing sociological knowledge, and enhancing the teaching and research level of sociology;
4. Publishing sociological books and periodicals, and exchanging academic information and materials;
5. Expanding the sociological contingent;
6. Organizing and attending national and international symposia or other forms of academic exchanges.
The association has been certified and registered by the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
